National Junior Honor Society

About NJHS

Founded in 1929, the National Junior Honor Society is a worldwide organization that recognizes and encourages academic achievement while developing other characteristics essential to citizens in a democracy.  Students are evaluated by the five values of citizenship, service, leadership, scholarship and character.  They must maintain high grades and become good citizens through participation in service projects.

NJHS Pledge

I pledge to uphold
The high purposes of the National Junior Honor Society to which I have been selected;
I will be true to the principles for which it stands;
I will be loyal to my school;
And will maintain and encourage
High standards of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.

Everyday Pillars

Everyday Scholarship is a commitment to learning and growing on an educational path.

Everyday Service is seeking out and engaging in meaningful service.

Everyday Leadership builds on Everyday Service. Service and leadership oftentimes look very similar. Everyday Leadership is carrying oneself with dignity and taking ownership and responsibility for one’s own actions and participation.

Everyday Character is valuing diverse cultures and building relationships that reflect love of self but also concern for others.

Everyday Citizenship is accepting one’s place and role in the community and seeking to understand the concerns and strengths of that community.
